Terex Superlift 3800 Crawler crane

My second visit on the first day of Bauma 2013 was at the booth of Terex cranes. This was right beside the Liebherr booth and I was looking forward to have a direct comparison of both of the competitors.

As Terex is a crane manufacturer with a most versatile product range of cranes, I was full of expectations. These expectations were also raised by the long white lattice boom that could be seen from far.

Though Terex has such a wide variety of brands and cranes in its portfolio, the crane manufacturer has shown only three cranes on the booth.

One of them was the crawler crane Superlift 3800. It was presented to customers for the first time in 2012 in the Zweibrücken facilities.

Terex crawler crane Superlift 3800

The Superlift 3800 can lift a maximum of 650 metric tons at a working radius of 12 m. It is the successor of the extremely successful CC 2800-1. The first deliveries for the Superlift 3800 started some weeks ago. First customers for this crane were Ulferts & Wittrock, Franz Bracht and Steil Kranarbeiten, all of them are crane hire companies from Germany.

Just like the CC 2800-1 the 3800 will probably be seen in wind parks most of the times. According to Terex the crawler crane can erect wind turbines up to 117 m height without superlift attachment. With superlift mast and suspended ballast the maximum hub height at the main boom is increased up to 156 m.

New 220 t All terrain crane and rough terrain crane

The second crane at the Terex stand was a brand new rough terrain crane named Quadstar 1075L. It is a 2-axle crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 75 metric tons. Maximum length of the telescopic boom is 41,8 meters; the maximum tip height is 45 m.

Terex Explorer 5800

Also brand new and shown for the very first time was a 220 metric tons telescopic crane named Terex Explorer 5800. Not too many details for this crane type were unveiled. It is said to have 70 m of telescopic main boom plus 33 m of boom extension respectively folding jib. The maximum load moment is 660 mt. The Explorer 5800 has a single drive concept. The carrier as well as the upper structure is driven by the carrier engine in order to minimize operating and maintenance costs.
