Liebherr crane in Ehingen hosted their famous crane days for customers and employees last week. Amongst many others the new LR 13000 crawler crane has been on display. The biggest crane in the Liebherr range has probably been the most observed one on display.

I had the great pleasure to visit the Liebherr crane days on Saturday. It was my very first visit to the crane plant in Ehingen. To say it up front, it has been a huge and most impressive event with perfectly arranged crane parades and shows. Also, visiting the production facilities and assembly lines for small and big mobile cranes has been absolutely overwhelming.

With this blog post I want to share with you some impressions of a real great day and a phantastic event. Beside a lot of information about this years Liebherr crane days you will find a huge picture gallery showing the LR 13000, LR 11350, the brand new Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 and the world premiere of another completly new developed crane.

Liebherr LR 13000 crawler crane

The LR 13000 is a crawler crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 3000 tonnes. It is the biggest crane in the world when we talk about single body crawler cranes. For the presentation of the LR 13000 the construction engineers came up with a real one-of-a-kind heavy lift. Configured with the massive power boom and 1400 tonnes of suspended ballast, the crane has been prepared for lifting a Liebherr LR 11350 which in turn has lifted a LR 1350/1 that again has lifted a telescopic crawler crane LTR 1100. This has been a very spectacular lifting job. The total weight of this crane mobile has been 1430 tonnes. Once lifted, the LR 13000 turned and moved sideways with the complete load. The lift had been introduced by a presenter with many interesting facts and information.

Liebherr LR 13000 specifications
Max. lifting capacity / Radius 3.000 t / 12 m
Max. load moment 65.000 tm
Main boom 60 m – 144 m
Luffing Jib 18 m – 126 m
Derrick mast 54 m
Counterweight 750 t/150 t
Suspended ballast 1.500 t
Power 1.000 kW

First LR 13000 sold to Mammoet cranes

The first sale of a Liebherr LR 13000 to Mammoet cranes has already been announced some weeks ago. The delivery of the first unit started in the past days and many other crane components are stored in the Liebherr shipping facilities waiting to be delivered. The dimensions of the crane and also of the single components appear to be unreal. One of the transports has shown the crawler crane middle section with the rotating.

Mammoet’s new crawler crane is currently being prepared for shipping to the U.S. for its first lifting job. According to Liebherr, the transport itself will cost around 1 Million Euro.

LR 11350 with Power boom

Another Liebherr LR 11350 had been setup with power boom for testing purposes on the testing field. Although this crawler crane is already very huge it looks like a toy beside the massive LR 13000.

Many other crawler and lattice boom cranes like LR 1600/2, LR 1600/2W and several LG 1750 have also been set up in various configurations on the test area.

Mobile crane presentation

On another part of the Liebherr premises a dynamic presentation of the different types of mobile cranes has been shown. In the first part of the show the new LTM 1750-9.1 telescopic crane has been introduced to the visitors.

Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 telescopic crane

The Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 is a nine axle telescopic crane with a 52 m main boom. Many attachments like the fixed jib and luffing jib make it an ideal crane for wind power installations with towers up to 100 m height. The LTM 1750-9.1 is closing the gap between the 500 tonnes LTM 1500-8.1 and the LTM 11200-9.1. During the dynamic presentation the LTM 1750-9.1 showed its great maneuverability. Other cranes introduced during this show have been the LTC 1045-3.1, LTM 1500-8.1, LTM 1350-6.1 and smaller telescopic cranes from the Liebherr product range.

Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 main specifications
Max. lifting capacity / Radius 750 t / 3 m
Main boom 52 m
Fixed Jib 6 m – 62 m
Luffing Jib 21 m – 91 m
Counterweight 204 t

Currently the LTM 1750-9.1 is still being tested. According to Liebherr the testing is probably going to take until September / October this year. It is planed to deliver 5-6 units to customers until the end of 2012. The first crane hire to get the LTM 1750-9.1 seems to be Breuer & Wasel from Germany as this was the only crane with a finished painting shown on the crane parade. Other cranes of this type were already on the testing and presentation field. These were still in primer but were labelled with the names of their future owners: Mammoet, Eisele, Felbermayr and Schot. The cost for the LTM 1750-9.1 has been mentioned during the show with approx. 4 Million Euro.

Liebherr LTR 1220 – Brand new telescopic crawler crane

The final highlight of the mobile crane show has been the introduction of the new telescopic crawler crane LTR 1220. It offers a maximum lifting capacity of 220 tonnes. This crane is the crawler crane version of the known LTM 1220-5.2 telescopic crane with 60 m telescopic boom. The LTR 1220 can be equipped with 12,2 / 22 / 29 / 36 m of folding jib plus two 7 m lattice extensions.

Liebherr LTR 1220 main specifications
Max. lifting capacity / Radius 220 t / 3 m
Main boom 60 m
Folding Jib 12,2 / 22 / 29 / 36 m
Boom extension 2 x 7 m
Counterweight / Central ballast 70 t / 20 t

Liebherr production facilities

Beside the dynamic crane presentation it had been possible to visit the production facilities. Starting with the boom assembly and steelwork you could see the complete production process ending up with the different assembly lines for smaller, bigger and biggest cranes. It has been absolutely fascinating to see how many cranes have at the same time been in production, painting, equipment, testing or ready for shipping.

A crane parade has shown all currently produced telescopic cranes from the smallest to the biggest cranes in livery paintings. The parade has started with the LTR 1060 and has ended with the LTM 11200-9.1 for Hartinger.
